Glen Barrington. Ultimate 8 and 9 were radical and exciting. LOTS of changes and in many ways, they were ‘no brainer’ software purchases. Ultimate 10, is a bit less exciting in that it is a version that consolidates and improves on what went before.

I wrote about U10 in ny blog. I think Ultimate 10 is a smart purchase for the photographer who is serious about his work and who uses ACDSee as his or her primary photo software. Noise Control is one of those things that I think has been significantly improved in V10 over V8 and V9. In the past ACDSee sort of brought an “elephant gun” on every hunt regardless of what was being hunted. If you needed some subtlety in your noise control efforts, you needed to turn to a third party Noise control tool like Topaz Denoise 6.

But the addition of preserve detail and preserve detail threshold sliders allow the user to add some fine control to the mix. Plus the ability to press the ‘alt’ key when sliding the luminance and color noise sliders really helps in addressing the noise and not the photo.

This is a good thing, I think Ultimate 10 is less compelling a purchase for the casual photographer or the person who hasn’t committed to using ACDSee as their primary software. That’s not to say, there are no new things in ultimate 10 that offer great promise. I think the addition of smartbrush technology really enhance selective editing and the selection process. Selecting the areas to edit has never been easier.

I give a brief overview of the smartbrush tools HERE. I think the Dashboard, which is a sort of graphic database statistics shows the potential for a lot of utility. If you are feeling trapped and burdened with an Adobe subscription but think switching will be a colossal pain in the camera case, rest easy, migration from Photoshop and Lightroom to ACDSee Photo Studio is a breeze.
