INDIA SAVED ITS BEST FOR THE LAST
An incredulous nation watched awestruck in wide eyed admiration as Neeraj Chopra hurled his 1.8 pound titanium javelin into the dark night skies high above the Tokyo skyline in an ostensibly impossible effort to challenge the best in the world !!
As the ornate spear of India’s hope soared interminably higher and higher in a beautifully framed arc against a pitch black night, it seemed to quiver with a life of its own as if carrying the aspirations and misty eyed dreams of a billion plus medal starved Indians far far beyond their wildest dreams in a gravity defying effort to finally sink softly into the verdant greens of the Olympic stadium in a perfect golden throw that sealed the final results of this sport beyond reasonable doubt on the penultimate day of the greatest sporting event on Earth.
After being airborne for an eternity, the spear impaled itself into the ground in a record shattering effort as TV anchors burst into spontaneous cheer and a grateful nation with its teeming billions erupted in frenzied applause in every living room of the country to finally erase the medal starved ghosts of their past !!
India and its newest sporting icon Neeraj instinctively knew at that very moment that history had just been scripted and the 121 year old wait for an Olympic Track & Field medal had ended with the ultimate prize on offer – a Gold far more precious than the metal itself !!
So confident was India’s wonderkid with his second throw that he did not even look back at what he had achieved but simply turned around and raised his arms in triumph knowing fully well that he had finally delivered what India had always hungered for since its missed opportunity in Rome 1960 A moment to cherish forever and a wonderful tale for generations to follow as the national anthem brought a lump to every Indian’s throat while the tricolor fluttered proudly in the breeze FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER in an Olympic athletic stadium bringing a sense of closure at last
Truly a feat more incredible than the combination of India’s two cricket World Cups put together wouldn’t you say ??

What brilliant prose. Loved the build up and the climax
I recommend shorter sentences next time though
Beautifully crafted. Indians write so much better than us Canadians generally
Much appreciated. Thanks for your encouragement
One gold medal and so much to write about ??
Nicely written but India is a sporting backbencher.
All you know is cricket
Thank you for your observations. Yes I do agree. The reason I felt I had to pen my thoughts was precisely because of the rare sporting success that comes India’s way in Olympic track&field events
